The Nigeria Police has finally arrested suspected killers of the Nigerian-born US Army veteran Chuks Okebata who was murdered in Owerri this January.
According to Punch, the Imo State Police Command nabbed the suspects after they sold Okebata’s Samsung Note 5 handset to a third party at N125,000, and it was through this third party the police was able to trace the suspected killers.
Recall that Okebata’s death made raves on social media after his family accused his wife of masterminding his death.
In her Facebook post, Okebata’s sister Ada Mbaeri shared disturbing videos of the army veteran’s quarrel with his wife which shows how she threw him out of their US home following a domestic altercation.
Many people believed Ada’s claims, but the young mum denied the accusations and explained why she threw him out their home: he rubbed his infidelities in her face and even shared all the messy details of his affairs on his Facebook to shame her.
Nothing was heard of the family war since January, until the Imo police busted the gang of four who allegedly murdered the army veteran.
Speaking with the press yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, identified the men he said were arrested after concrete evidence was established about their involvement in the death of Okebata. The men are – Osondu Chukwu, Uchechukwu Stanley, Onyekachi Kelvin Nwoke and Uchendu Promise.
Lakanu said:
“The suspects were arrested in connection with the robbery and murder of one Oscar Okebata, of Achi Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, an American veteran soldier who returned home for the yuletide period last year.
The victim’s Samsung Note 5 handset was sold at N125,000, leading to the arrest of the suspected masterminds of the crime.”
The suspects are yet to be charged to court.
This is an interesting update from the Nigeria police whose officers were recently trained in analysis of fingerprints and forensics. However, the Okebata family is yet to speak up since the latest development.
