Endris Mohammed, 46, has been charged with murdering his two children Saros Endris, eight, and Leanor Endris, six, in a house fire.
Mohammed, who will also face a charge of attempting to murder their mother, Penil Teklehaimanot, was found in a burnt-out Vauxhall car in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, after a blaze broke out at his family home, 40 miles away in Hamstead, Birmingham on October 28.
Mohammed was charged on Tuesday night after he was interviewed for the first time since his release from hospital, where he was being treated for burns.
According to Detective Sergeant Nick Barnes the children had been sleeping downstairs in the living room with their father the night before they died.
His son Saros Endris, eight, and daughter Leanor Endris, six, were dragged out of the burning property by their neighbors and were later found 'lifeless' on the lawn by firefighters.
